Piano Lessons

learning made easy

I love lessons with Mrs. Westall because she breaks everything down into steps and makes it easy for us to learn.  My favorite part is learning new songs.

Positive lessons

My 7-years-old daughter always looks forward to her glee club and piano lessons with Mrs. Westall. The approach and materials make it easy for the students to learn and for us to assist with practice at home. Mrs. Westall is always willing to help if we have a question between classes, send videos for examples, and has even offered to setup a face-time session to provide specific help with practice. Mrs. Westall's approach is nurturing, supportive, and positive.  You can tell she has a love for teaching and music which she instills in her students.

Wonderful Musical Experience

My son, Jack, has been taking lessons from Shauna for 5 months. She has already instilled such a love for music within him. Shauna provides a safe environment where he feels safe to make mistakes and ask questions. Her teaching techniques are fun, yet effective. She gives a lot of individual attention that makes each student feel special & confident. Jack absolutely has grown in so many ways, thanks to the wonderful musical experience Shauna has given him!

There is so much pressure today on kids (and their parents!) to learn TONS of stuff. But how often do they get to choose what they want to learn, based on what brings them joy?

Westall Music offers just that—a fun supportive environment where your child can discover his or her gifts.  It’s not enough to play a piece perfectly & hate every second of it. It’s not enough to love to strike the keys but not be able to play chopsticks.

There has to be a balance.

At Westall Music, I’ve discovered the trick to learning piano— without losing the love of music that brought you to the bench.

My students understand and love the PROCESS of learning a new song.  It becomes a joyful experience for them. They are eager to explore music deeply and leave their lessons feeling confident in their abilities.

There are around 9453 other things that kids HAVE to learn–but when you learn something for the sheer JOY of it, you’ll carry it with you for life.

Westall Music offers a unique experience that creates lifelong musicians. Contact me today with questions or for your free introductory lesson.

Signing up for lessons shouldn’t be stressful. Here are answers to some common questions and the answers may surprise you!

Does my child need a piano at home?

Yes, you will need either a good acoustic piano or digital piano for at home practice between lessons.  Speaking of practice…

How much does my child need to practice?

This is the most asked question that I receive in talking to parents. And to ease your worry I’m happy to say that a beginning piano student won’t be spending hours at the piano.

Some teachers insist that students practice X number of minutes each day. I don’t because every student is different. I recommend shorter but consistent daily practice sessions.  These are typically 5-10 minutes for beginning students.

What if my child hates piano lessons?

I totally get it. So many people tell me that they were forced into piano as a child and dreaded every lesson. I offer a free introductory lesson so that you and your child get to know me and will have a sense of what lessons are all about. There’s not an obligation to sign up or stick with lessons, but most families like my approach to teaching piano.

What if my child is totally confused when trying to practice?

We spend quite a bit of time learning new pieces during the lesson so that most students feel confident practicing at home.  But sometimes it’s hard to recall everything.  When that happens, call or text me! I will never say, “sorry Suzy, you’re on your own.” We can do a quick video practice session (it’s free) to help get your child back on track!

How much will lessons cost?

Piano lessons are affordable! Contact me for my current rates and payment options.
