Voice Lessons

learning made easy

I love lessons with Mrs. Westall because she breaks everything down into steps and makes it easy for us to learn.  My favorite part is learning new songs.

Positive lessons

My 7-years-old daughter always looks forward to her glee club and piano lessons with Mrs. Westall. The approach and materials make it easy for the students to learn and for us to assist with practice at home. Mrs. Westall is always willing to help if we have a question between classes, send videos for examples, and has even offered to setup a face-time session to provide specific help with practice. Mrs. Westall's approach is nurturing, supportive, and positive.  You can tell she has a love for teaching and music which she instills in her students.

Wonderful Musical Experience

My son, Jack, has been taking lessons from Shauna for 5 months. She has already instilled such a love for music within him. Shauna provides a safe environment where he feels safe to make mistakes and ask questions. Her teaching techniques are fun, yet effective. She gives a lot of individual attention that makes each student feel special & confident. Jack absolutely has grown in so many ways, thanks to the wonderful musical experience Shauna has given him!

Singing is universal. People in every country and culture sing. Since we carry our instrument from birth, there is nothing more personal, vital, or fulfilling than using your voice.

Yet somehow a majority of the population has the belief (or have even been told) that their voices are bad or don’t measure up.  If I had a nickel for every time that I’ve heard “Oh, I can’t sing” I could have retired by age 33!

What are our lessons like?

New singers need an encouraging teacher and supportive fun environment.  Westall Music provides the tools to develop the very BEST version of your voice…judgement free!

Our students:

  • Sing with a beautiful healthy tone that is UNIQUE to the student—instead of imitating someone else
  • Analyze meaning & mood behind lyrics
  • Sing melody and harmony
  • Sight sing
  • Sing different styles & genres of music
  • Perform with confidence
  • Leave their lessons feeling energized and less stressed
  • Understand how the voice works
  • Connect with fellow singers on a deeper level
  • Develop a lifelong passion for singing and music

We offer group lessons for beginners and private instruction for advanced students.  If your child loves to sing, you’ve come to the right place.  Contact me today for a free introductory lesson.

Signing up for lessons shouldn’t be stressful. Here are answers to some common questions and the answers may surprise you!

Can anyone learn to sing?

Yes, if a student is motivated to work consistently toward goals and has good instruction, anyone can improve and become a good singer.

My child is 8 and loves to sing! Can she take private lessons with you?

We only offer private instruction at age 12 or 13 (7th grade). Here’s why: younger children have vocal folds that are not developed yet, and they aren’t ready for traditional voice lessons.  Our group lessons fit the needs of younger singers by allowing them to develop their natural voices with ease.

My child only wants to sing pop or broadway. What styles do you teach?

Training a voice is similar to constructing a building.  We first teach traditional healthy technique…how to breathe, proper tone, and replace any bad habits/technique with healthy ones.  As a singer improves, this foundation allows them the ability to sing a wide range of music.

What is a typical voice lesson like?

Students sing technical exercises that allow improvement over time and also “warm-up” the voice for the lesson.  Then we sing through music that the student is currently learning and make any adjustments so that the singer can be his/her best. Private students also work on sight singing and group singers work on ear-training.

How much do lessons cost?

Voice lessons are affordable! Contact me for my current rates and payment options.

How do I know if my child will like lessons?

Finding the right teacher is THE most important aspect of music lessons. We offer a free introductory lesson so that you and your child get to know me and will have a sense of what lessons are all about. There’s no an obligation to sign up, but most families like my approach to teaching.
